About Me
Chris Wu’s inspiration has often been rooted in his grandmother's Chinese watercolor bird and flower paintings (花鸟画), and he continues to find great meaning in exploring the slivers and shavings of Mother Nature's imagery. Most of his recent work consists of ink and oil on paper, assisted by photography or found natural objects. However, a growing desire to keep trying and learning has introduced Chris to newer practices like pottery and pointed pen calligraphy.
Outside of artmaking, Chris Wu is a Program Assistant at the Office of Academic Appointments and Internships (OAAI) who began his journey at the Smithsonian in 2018 through the Internship to Fellowship (I2F) Program. As an intern, Chris worked on exhibition and conservation projects at the Museum Conservation Institute, Paintings Conservation Department. Afterwards, Chris joined the OAAI team and has since provided organizational and administrative support for various Fellowships programs. He has also enjoyed developing the office’s presence on the Smithsonian Magazine’s Voices blog to help make visible the diversity of voices and scholarship across the Smithsonian.
